WebWrap is a small 3-in-1 utility program to compress and/ or code your HTML web files. It uses either a modified LZSS algorithm or the URL encryption procedure, and can
reduce the size of your files by more than 50%. It also renders the source of any HTML pages you have created, your
design features and your scripts for example, inaccessible to easy viewing or simple clip and
paste procedures. The "WebWrapped" files you create are self-extracting and do not require any
third-party software. In addition to compressing and coding your HTML files, you also have the opportunity to
add automatically a password protection script.
Using WebWrap is very simple:
- Download the installation program (wwsetup.exe) to a folder of your choice, and then
click on the program icon to start the
setup program.
- Follow the instructions and, if in doubt, accept all the default settings. WebWrab will be installed in your main
Program Files folder and a start icon will be placed on your desktop.
- Click on the desktop icon to start WebWrap. The following screen will appear:
- Click with your mouse on the "Load File" button and select the file you would like to code and compress.
You will see something like this:
- You can now choose to wrap the file immediately or first to view the file in your standard browser which will
automatically be located and opened by WebWrap.
- If you have not changed the default options settings, your HTML file will be wrapped (i.e. coded and compressed) and saved
without prompting in the same folder as the original file and with the addition of "_wrap" to
the file name.
- You can now view the wrapped file by clicking the "View Wrapped File in Browser" button.
If you click on the Options tab, the following screen will appear:
OPTION 1: By default, WebWrap adds "_wrap" as a marker suffix to your original file so that you can
easily recognize which of your documents have been processed. You can change the suffix by entering a different one in the text box.
OPTION 2: Different people have different priorities and this option allows you to select whether
"coding" or "compression" is more important for your files. The default setting is maximum compression with a medium level of security.
If you are unsure about the best setting for your files, simply run the "Wrap It!" option twice with different settings each time and
see what you think about the results.
OPTION 3: If you would like to restrict access to your web page to those users with
a password, please check the "Enable Password" option. WebWrap will then automatically include a JavaScript password control
which is not easy to crack!
OPTION 4: Here is a little bit of information about the two compression and/ or encryption procedures:
The LZSS Method
- This algorithm is the most efficient method for WebWrap processing of your HTML files.
- Can compress large HTML files by more than 50%.
- Offers more security for your encrypted files than the URL method.
- Increases the size of very small HTML files.
- The decoding process for large HTML files in Netscape is very time-consuming.
The URL Method
- The encryption process in WebWrap is very fast.
- Offers no compression and considerably increases the size of your HTML files.
- The encrypted files are loaded very quickly in both Internet Explorer and Netscape.
- Hides effectively the content of even small HTML files.
We recommend that you test both methods before deciding which process best suits your personal requirements.
OPTION 5: There are two possible ways to save your "wrapped" files. By default the file is saved
automatically and without any user prompt in the same folder as the original HTML file.If required,
you can choose to have the familiar "Windows" save screen presented and then select the name and
destination of the wrapped file yourself.
You can use WebWrap forever in the evaluation version. There are no time restrictions and no
crippled functions. The only "nag" is the rotating banner and the one line comment that a file has been wrapped with the
Tac-Software WebWrap program. If you would like to remove this comment and/ or would like to use WebWrap on a commercial site,
please consider purchasing a license. It costs (US)$14.95 and allows you unlimited and anonymous
use of the program. It also encourages us to go on with the development! WebWrap contains an integrated "Purchase" option. All you have to do is click the "BUY NOW!" button and follow the simple instructions which follow.
WebWrap works best with large HTML files. Due to the JavaScript code which is added a very small web file will be encrypted, but the size may be increased! WebWrap will issue a warning if this is the case.
During the testing phase of WebWrap, problems occasionally occurred when identical variables were defined in the WebWrap program and in the HTML file it was targeted to process. Here you can find a comprehensive list of all the string and integer variables which are used by the WebWrap program. If you encounter problems using WebWrap, please check first of all that there are no conflicts between the variables in the list and the ones which are defined in your HTML file.
To uninstall WebWrap, simply run the "Remove WebWrap" from the WebWrap entry in the Window's start menu, or select the appropriate entry in the Add/Remove programs of the Window's control panel.
